A cooperative is motivated NOT by profit, but by SERVICE to meet the needs of its members. A cooperative is motivated NOT by profit, but by SERVICE to meet the needs of its member.  A Cooperative follows seven principles:  Voluntary and open membership, democratic member control, member economic participation, autonomy and independence, cooperation among cooperatives and concern for community.

Russell Co. Co-Op is not only a member of the Southern States Cooperative but also the Land O Lakes Cooperative and Growmark, as well as several others.

Russell Co. Co-Op Livestock Shipping Association was formed around 1933. In 1939 the Association had an active membership of over 600 farmers, 90% of whom grew tobacco.
